Recently a country, Guinea, which suffered from the outbreak of Ebola virus has been declared to be free of this disease. The outbreak of Ebola virus took over 2500 lives in Guinea. In the other hand, Liberia is still fighting this disease but could be declared Ebola free in January.
Ebola virus was originated in Africa, 1976. In 1976, there were two simultaneous out breaks, one in Nzara, Sudan, and the other in Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. The latter occured in a village near the Ebola river, from which the disease takes its name. It is thought that fruit bats is the nature hosts of Ebola virus. Ebola virus is introduced to the human populations through close contact of blood, secretions, and other body fluids of infected animals such as chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, and monkey, and spread through human-to-human via the same way. The incubation period is 2 to 21 days. Humans are not infectious until the symptoms developed. If one is infected by Ebola virus, the first symptoms will be the sudden onset of fever fatigue, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. This is followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, symptoms of impaired kidney and liver function, and in some cases, both internal and external bleeding. The Ebola virus is definitely fatal if not treated. Moreover, the virus can be transmitted even the hosts are dead. As ling as the virus is in the hosts blood, the disease can be spread.
There are still cases in some country of Africa. Fortunately, the condition is stabled and those country which suffered from this outbreak could be declared Ebola free soon.
